Do some research. There is one website that has rated web hosts-
www.best-webhosting-2008.com. You usually can purchase your domain name through your webhost, if you haven't purchased it already. Most people need standard hosting without anything extra included- for this you shouldn't be paying more than $10 mo.
Q. What do I do if I need a shopping cart?
A. If you require a shopping cart- a basic free shopping cart system is offered through Paypal- but this is best used as a small scale cart. If your needs are beyond a couple item shopping cart, and the purpose of your website is web based sales, you will want to shop for hosting with a shopping cart system rolled into it.

Q. How do I bring more traffic to my site?
A. There are many ways to bring traffic to your site. You can sign up with Google to advertise with them with- Google AdWords.
You can do a link exchange (referral) with other websites. Depending on your business you can try to list yourself under other website listings.
There is also email marketing. There are many competitive websites (www.verticalresponse.com, www.constantcontact.com, www.icontact.com) that offer email marketing. Used for mailing lists/newsletters/special offers/upcoming events etc, they can offer different visual templates to mail out to your clientelle. The companies house your data on their databases, and the email campaign is done from their servers so you don't need to worry about being labeled a spammer. This is a way not to create traffic but to keep your customers coming back again and again, which is another element to remember.
If it pertains to your website/business you can create a free blog site which you link to your main website and the blog sites like myspace.com and wordpress.com can create their own traffic.
The more places you are the more traffic you can get.
Q. How do I maximize profitability?
A. One way is by referring traffic/sales to other websites. There are affiliate programs you can sign-up for. If you choose to refer your traffic to a website you have registerd with, and they click the provided link, or purchase something off of the referred website you earn money. Simply do a search for affiliate program. Look for programs that meet your expectation in profits and reimbursement. Make sure the programs you choose won't compete with your business.
Another way is to offer your clientelle a way to pay for your services online. It could be in the form of donations/purchases/memberships/gift certificates with many other possibilities.
